Hambüchen back in the gym

February 19, 2011

One month after his injury, Fabian Hambüchen is already back in the gym. He worked out five days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p. m. in the sports injury clinic in Bad Nauheim. Since this week he trains in his own gym again, where he’ll work for his comeback probably the next six months. Three times per week he does basic exercises on all apparatus except floor and vault and in the coming weeks he’ll raise the amount of training hours. The Olympics are still his main goal and a big motivation to work hard for a successful comeback even though German head coach Andreas Hirsch was quoted in ‘Mitteldeutsche Zeitung‘ saying: “Philipp Boy is already clearly the better gymnast.”

Anja Brinker who tore her achilles tendon eight days after Hambüchen is working for her comeback, too.

Check out Gymnastike’s ‘Gymnast of the Week’. Liz writes about the queen of gymnastics Svetlana Khorkina.

Svetlana, who was unusually tall for the sport, had to often change skills in order to compete successfully. As a result, she has an unprecedented 8 skills named after her, including one on at least every event; her 8 skills are more than any other gymnast, male or female!
