Dutch Women’s Team for Europeans

March 8, 2011

Celine van Gerner

The Gymnastics Federation of the Netherlands named their women’s team for the European Championships after a second trial last weekend. Some gymnasts – Mayra Kroonen, Sanne Wevers, Marlies Rijken and Suzanne Harmes – didn’t compete because they weren’t ready yet (or injured or taking a break) and decided to skip Europeans in order to be prepared for Worlds. On the team are:

  • Céline van Gerner
  • Joy Goedkoop
  • Yvette Moshage
  • Naoual Ouazzani Chahdi

Celine van Gerner looks good!

Celine van Gerner seems to be ready for Europeans next month! At a recent second trial for the European Championships in Berlin at the 5th of March she scored 14.200 on FX, 14.733 on BB and won the meet with 56.066 despite having a fall on an overall very lovely UB routine. What I like most about her beam, in which she performs a round-off + layout and a stuck double piked dismount, is her secureness – as a viewer you somehow know that she won’t fall.

Click play or watch her beam on YouTube:

On floor she performs a tsukahara, 1.5 bwd. + 1.0 fwd., 2.5 bwd. and a double back with really good choreography.

I already mentioned the fall on bars, but nevertheless her routine is worth to watch including some good inside stalder work, a very high jaeger and a tsuk dismount.

On vault she performed a Yurchenko full.

The Couch Gymnast has a great summary of this month’s competitions. Here’s one more which you can add to the calendar. A friendly meet between the teams of Spain, Great Britain, Germany, Switzerland and individual gymnasts from the Netherlands in Chemnitz (GER) on the 19th of March (same day as Trophy of Jesolo & Paris World Cup). So everyone who won’t be in Paris or Jesolo will be there. For the German team (and likely also for the other teams) it’s the second qualification for the Europeans.

ESP – Claudia Menéndez, Beatriz Cuesta, Claudia Vila, Toya Rojas, Ainoa Carmona and Elena Zaldivar

GBR – Danusia Francis, Jessica Hogg, Jocelyn Hunt, Charlotte Lindsley, Jennifer Pinches and Rebecca Wing

GER – Oksana Chusovitina, Kim Bui, Pia Tolle, Giulia Hindermann, Nadine Jarosch, Lisa-Katharina Hill and newcomer Adina Hausch as an alternate

SUI – Jessica Diacci, Julia Steingruber, Linda Staempfli, Nadia Baeriswil, Sarina Gerber and Jennifer Senn
